Leeds United Association Football Club are an English professional football team|club based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. They currently compete in the Football League One for the 2007-08 season. The club was founded in 1919, following the demise of Leeds City F.C.. They play their home games at the Elland Road stadium.
Under the management of Don Revie during the 1960s and 1970s Leeds won every domestic trophy and two European trophies and lost in two other European finals. After Revie's departure to manage the England national football team, Leeds reached the final of the European Champions Cup at a time when only Champion clubs were allowed to compete. They lost the final in controversial circumstances which have since given rise to the WACCOE chant. Leeds later went into decline and were relegated to the Football League Second Division in 1981-82, not returning to the top flight until 1989-90, when they were managed by Howard Wilkinson. Leeds were English football champions in 1991-92. Wilkinson is currently the last English manager to win the League. The club's nicknames are "Leeds", "United" or "The Whites". Another nickname is "The Peacocks", though this is virtually obsolete. This nickname stems from the old name of the Elland Road stadium (The Old Peacock Ground), which was named after the Old Peacock pub across the road.
